Family Court of Australia

The Family Court deals with select cases involving children and parenting issues, including serious allegations of family violence, sexual and physical abuse of a child, and child abduction.

Federal Circuit Court of Australia

In April 2013 the Federal Magistrates Court changed its name to the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.  The changes were implemented to reflect the Court’s role as a Federal Court.  At the time the Court was renamed, the Federal Magistrates that presided in the Court also became known as Judges.  The role of the Court is still the same as it has been and that is to deal with most issues arising in Family Law Cases, including parenting and maintenance of children, the division of property and maintenance in a marriage and in de facto relationships and Applications for Divorce.

Queensland Courts

The Queensland Courts website contains information about the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts of Queensland. These courts deal with a range of criminal matters, including domestic violence cases, child maintenance and child protection orders.

Queensland Law Society

The Queensland Law Society is the peak professional body for Queensland solicitors. It monitors the practices of solicitors to ensure that they meet the standards set for the profession.

Child Support Agency

The CSA is responsible for administering Australia’s Child Support Scheme, including supporting separated parents to transfer payments to their spouse for the benefit of their children.

Department of Justice

The Department of Justice is the peak body in Queensland dealing with legal and justice issues. Agencies that are part of the Department include the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and Crown Law.

The Department is the Australian Government’s main source of advice on social policy. The Department implements programs and services dealing with issues such as homelessness, persons with a disability, and Indigenous persons.
